I came across this term the other day and it struck me. It was referring to the “new normal” (as economists call it) that has replaced the devil-may-care spending habits of the last decade. It reminded me of the early ’80’s. I was newly married, about to graduate from college, and staring a mortgage in the face for the first time in my life ~ at a still unbelievable 14% interest rate. And now, just as my parents and grandparents so annoyingly pointed out to me on an all-too-regular bases, I am now pointing out to my own children how little we made do with when were their age. But you know what? The award doesn’t go to the person who struggles and manages with the least, but rather to the person who knows how to squeeze the most joy and yes, luxury into everyday experiences in-spite of seeming lack.

We all know these people ~ they are the ones who turn the simplest things into fun; they laugh more, love more, and view life through a pair of rose colored glasses seemingly superglued to their faces. And while they may secretly annoy us from time to time, it is an annoyance tinged with envy…. We want to feel that way, too.

Well, guess what? We can. Bit by bit, moment by moment, we can build more joy into our lives.

When we opened Agnes Ross, it was with this philosophy in mind ~ turn those everyday moments into something a bit more special; turn daily tasks into tiny pockets of “mindful indulgence”. Whether it is with a luxurious bar of Milk soap lathering up a sea sponge or a squeeze of Sea Salt Neroli dish washing liquid into that sink full of dirty dishes; trust me, I know it sounds silly, but it really does feel so wonderful. And while I want new granite countertops, for now I am content to settle for my Sea Salt Neroli Countertop Cleanser….It makes me feel good to lavish my old formica with a little indulgence ~ or maybe it is just all those endorphins the scent of the essential oils release….

I realize it sounds ridiculous, but trust me, injecting a little “mindful indulgence into your daily life slowly, subtly, amazingly transforms it.

As we work on getting our website up and running properly, we are very excited that we are now able to finally tell all our customers about our products (that we love so much) through our new blog! We are even more excited that we will soon be adding new lines to our store and to the website.
